I didn’t begin my career in nonprofits because it looked good on paper. I chose this path because I lived the impact of nonprofit work long before I ever worked in the sector.
I grew up in the kind of community nonprofits work tirelessly to serve, knowing what it feels like to face food insecurity, housing instability, and lack of proper healthcare. I wondered how far my dreams could actually reach. But I also knew what it felt like to be supported. To have a mom who encouraged me, teachers who opened my mind, and mentors who believed in me.
Those who lifted me up shaped the trajectory of my life and planted the seed for my career.
As a business school student, while others pursued corporate roles, I realized I was meant for a different path—one grounded in impact. The work I was doing at a nonprofit with children and families felt more meaningful than anything else in my life. I knew I wanted to spend my career helping organizations that change lives and expand opportunities for others, just as others had done for me.
So I committed to the nonprofit world.
Over the next 30 years, I became a leader, a fundraiser, a strategist, and an advocate. I’ve seen the joy of impact, like students discovering their potential, families receiving care they couldn’t otherwise access, and communities coming together to build something transformative.
And I’ve seen (and felt firsthand) the struggle — leaders stretched thin, teams overwhelmed, the constant pursuit of resources, systems straining under the pressure of meeting endless needs.
That’s why I created Corris Coaching & Consulting: to support the people behind the mission.
My work blends lived experience, deep empathy, clarity-focused coaching, and rigorous nonprofit strategy. I partner with leaders and organizations to help them grow, align, and strengthen the impact they were meant to create.
Because when leaders thrive, missions thrive. And when missions thrive, lives change.
